Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Prediction Using the Framingham Risk Score

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the world’s most common cause of death. The Framingham risk score (FRS) is commonly used method for CVD assessment. Low-risk individuals have 10% or less coronary heart (CHD) at 10 years, 10-20% intermediate risk and 20% more high risk. Aim Work: To estimate of developing cardiovascular over next ten years among administrativestaff Zagazig University, Egypt. Material Methods: A structured questionnaire was used to get data about socio demographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements done, laboratory investigations measurefasting post brandial blood sugar lipid profile. risk score calculated by using information on age, gender, smoking ,diabetes mellitus (DM), systolic pressure , treatment hypertension, total cholesterol high-density lipoprotein levels everysubject. Results: About 55% studied sample were males 44.8%were females, overall prevalence hypertension 45.7% ,36.2% had a positive family history 25% physically active( majority them males),21.5% diabetic, 63.7% highblood cholesterol,55.1% central obesity,68.1% overweight orobese. FRS mean higher as compared females (14.3±7.1and11.9±5.8 respectively). Participants with CVR mainlyinactive, smokers, history, diabetics, hypertensive,with level, density centralobesity .A statistically significant correlation observed betweenFRS cholesterol, pressure, glucose ,weight ,waist circumference body mass index(BMI) Conclusion: 42%of our subjects low anticipated 10-year risk, 30% were moderate 28% .The significantrisk factors male gender ,smoking, physical inactivity hypertension,diabetes mellitus, obesity, abdominal obesity cholesteroland HDL-cholesterol level in addition . CVDis preventable public health issue; its modifiable.
